There’s nothing like creating an amazing design that your client loves, while also saving some money in the process.

You don’t have to compromise on the quality of the fonts you choose, just because you’re not paying the big bucks for them.

Better yet, why pay for fonts at all when there are some really great ones out there that are ready for you to use for free?

10 Free Fonts That’ll Change Your Life

I’m going to introduce you to your new best friends, aka 10 open source fonts that’ll spice up all your designs in 2020.

You ready to do this? Cause I am.

Let’s jump right into it.

1. Manrope

We’re going to start today’s list of 10 free fonts with Manrope.

I’ve mentions this font before, but that’s only because it’s my all time favorite.

It’s modern, it’s sleek, it’s everything you want in a free font.

It’s versatility is what really hits home for me and that’s why I recommend that you start incorporating it into all your new designs.

2. Inter

You might’ve seen Inter take a step into the scene as of recent, and I truly believe it’s here to stay.

Inter has become a staple font for many, so don’t be the exception! Add this font to your collection and start adding it to your design projects right away.

3. Public Sans

I can’t lie, I love a good sans serif font.

But what’s special about this font is that it was developed for the US government and is all over their websites and is a huge part of their design.

It looks very similar to another open-source font that you may know of, Libre Franklin.

4. Alice

It’s time to step away from the sans serif, and into the serifs.

When I saw the type-face Alice, I knew it was going to have a new and special spot in my font collection.

Alice is a very unique serif font, which seems kinda old-fashioned, but at the same time, pretty modern.

You can find this font on Google-fonts!

5. Urbanist

Another one of my all time favorite free fonts is Urbanist.

This geometric sans serif is most definitely a modern font that can be used in a variety of different projects.

From logos, to headlines, this font is perfect to add to your colelction of fonts.

What are you waiting for? Go and download it now!

6. Evolventa

Were you surprised when you saw another modern sans serif?

Me either.

Evolventa is a Cyrillic extension of the open-source URW Gothic L font family.

7. Object Sans

If this font isn’t eye-catching, I don’t know what is.

If you’re looking for the perfect combination of Swiss neo-grotesks and geometric fonts, then Object Sans is the one for you.

This font is perfect to replace any of those pricey fonts, because it looks just as good as the rest of them.

8. Lunchtype

I love a good back-story to any font that I use, and Lunchtype has one of the best.

The designer who created this font created it during a lunch break on 100-day project.

We love a good lunch-break, and I can’t deny that that’s when some of my best ideas come to me.

Food is life, and so is an amazing font.

9. Work Sans

What’s cuter than a good font and a hedgehog?

I’ll answer that for you.

nothing.

Absolutely nothing.

10. Monoid

And finally, we’ve come to our last free font, which is Monoid.

Monoid is another great font that we know you’ll love and be using on the daily, if you code.

“The clever thing about Monoid is that it has font-awesome built into it, which they call Monoisome. This means when writing code, you can pop a few icons in there easily. Monoid looks just as great when you’re after highly readable website body text.”

Let us know in the comments which font was your favorite of this list and which ones you’ll be incoporating into your daily design life.

Until next time,

Stay creative folks!

If you weren’t working on a remote team before, well, chances are that you probably are now!

I know that I love working from home, but when you first start working remotely, it can start as a bit of a challenge.

Of course, it has its pros and cons, but it’s just a learning curve.

Through this global pandemic, you can still be as productive and connected to your team as ever, despite working remotely.

There are a few tools that will make your team’s remote life easier, so I’m going to share 10 tools with you that can help you and your team stay productive.

10 Tools That Will Help Your Remote Design Team Stay On The Same Page

We will be going over different categories of tools that will help your remote design team, like project management and roadmapping tools, organization tools, and tools to help you stay personally productive.

Project Management, Communication, and Roadmapping Tools

The first category we’ll be diving into is all about staying on the same page and plan as your team, so let’s get into the best tools for that.

1. Airfocus

Airfocus productivity tool remote work

If you haven’t heard of Airfocus by now, well then, you’ve been missing out big time.

Airfocus is a roadmapping and prioritization tool that will help your team see what is most important to get done today and what needs to get done in the future.

Airfocus will help you make the best decisions today, so that you can get the right stuff done in the future. You don’t have to outdated spreadsheets and unclear roadmaps anymore.

Create priorities, have a bird’s eye view of all your tasks, make to-do lists, and more!

With a beautiful design and easy-to-understand-and-use platform, you can start using Airfocus today so that you can get the right stuff done!

2. Asana

Another tool that will help you and your team all stay on the same page is Asana.

Asana will help you visualize your team’s plan so you can all stay on top of the game.

With Asana’s work management platform, your team can stay focused on their goals, projects, and tasks—no matter when or where they work

You can build project plans, coordinate tasks, and hit all your deadlines all in one app!

3. Basecamp

Basecamp is another great tool for keeping everyone in the loop on what’s going on.

One thing that is different about this tool is that it has an in-app chat, so you can talk directly to your teammates without ever leaving the app.

Set your goals, priorities, and talk to everyone all in one place.

4. Slack

This one is probably a no-brainer, but Slack is a must when it comes to communication.

Probably the best part of Slack is that you can organize loads of channels so there’s a place for everything to be discussed.

No more endless scrolling looking for that “one time” we talked about this or that.

You can have a channel for memes, a channel for sharing ideas, and channel for half the team, and a channel for sharing pictures of your pets.

Anything is possible with Slack.

5. Zoom

My final communication tool that I 100% recommend is Zoom.

Remember the struggle of trying to organize a group call on skype? You could never use video for group calls and it was a premium feature.

Not anymore!

You can use Zoom whenever, wherever, with as many people as you want, and it’s free.

Use Zoom to organize video calls with your entire team!

Organization tools

6. InVision

Design better. Faster. Together.

That’s InVision’s motto. This tool was designed specifically with designers in mind.

My favorite bit of this tool is the Design System Manager. The Design System Manager helps teams centralize their design assets, all in one place, as visuals and in code.

Directly comment on a design and give feedback immediately to your coworkers!

7. Abstract

If you use tools like Sketch and Adobe XD, then you’re going to love this product.

With Abstract, you can integrate the tools you already use, import your design files from your computer that need some teamwork, and collaborate with your team directly on the platform.

Productivity Tools

8. Noisli

Noisli is a must-have app. Sometimes listening to the same old songs gets boring, and you can’t always focus and be able to listen to a podcast while creating something amazing for work.

They have every sound you’re looking for. You want the sound of the rainforest? Cool. You want the sound of a busy coffee shop? Why not. You can also adjust the volume of each individual sound so you can tailor it to the way you can focus best.

Noisli will let you choose any background noise you want and it’ll help you stay productive and on top of things.

9. Figure it out

If you happen to work on a remote team that is currently all over the globe, then you know how hard it is to organize a time to video call that works for everyone.

You gotta know that Betty lives California, but Jack lives in Germany, and you gotta figure out the time difference and it’s a whole thing that will do a number on your sanity.

Figure it out is a chrome extension that will help you know all of your team member’s locations and what time it is for them so that you can easily schedule a meeting or find time to collaborate.

10. Take a Break

Finally, I present to you, Take a Break.

Here’s a direct quote from their site regarding exactly what this app does.

Staring at your computer for too long is not good, and Take A Break, Please is a simple menubar app that forces* you to take your break. You can configure time between breaks and the duration of the break.

When the scheduled break starts, the app will dim your screen and prompt you to take a short break. Take that time to stand up, do some stretching, take a walk, or get yourself a cup of coffee.

That’s an app I can get behind. I’m all for working productively in increments and rewarding myself with 10 minutes of downtime.

I hope you found these tools helpful

If you enjoyed this list, let me know in the comments what your favorite tools was and what you’ll be integrating into your workflow!

If I missed any of your favorite tools, let me know what they are so I can cover them in the future.

Until next time,

Stay creative!

There’s nothing better than finding a new design tool that will make your life a million times easier.

After all, we all want to get our work done as quickly and efficiently as possible, and if there’s a tool for that, then I want it.

And I did find some tools that I absolutely love that come in handy, and that’s why I want to share my life of new favorite design tools.

5 Design Tools You Have to Try

Once you try these tools, there’s no going back.

Let me tell you all about them.

1. Opensource Builders

Opensoure Builder app for designers

I want to start this list off strongly, so let’s hit it off with Opensource Builders.

Have you ever found an app that you absolutely love but your budget doesn’t allow you to purchase?

Or maybe you’re just a cheapo(aka, maximizer) like me, and try to get the most bang for your buck.

Opensource Builder will help you find open-source alternatives for your favorite apps!

Just type in the name of the app you’re looking for, and you’ll find a ton of alternatives for it.

Compare the cons and pros, prices, and more to find the ideal app for your project.

2. Unscreen

Unscreen design apps

Next up, we have Unscreen.

Have you ever tried to remove the background of a video? It’s not that easy.

Unscreen will automatically remove the background of any video 100% automatically, and for free.

We love a double-whammy.

This means you can record any video, upload the clip into Unscreen, use their tool to scrub the background of your video, and then you can add any background element of your own!

All of this, for free.

Soon enough, they’ll have a pro version as well. I’m excited to see what else they will come up with when they already have such an amazing free design tool.

3. Neumorphism.io

Neumorphism.io design app

Neumorphism seems like it’s everywhere nowadays, and I know an app that can help you integrate that into your CSS code.

Neumorphism.io is a generator that will create the CSS for this soft UI style that we’ve been seeing everywhere. This makes your job a lot easier and you can experiment quickly to see what you like for your website.

4. Glitch Art Generator

glitch art generator design apps

We have another generator on our list!

Glitch Art Generator will help you achieve the perfect glitch background for your project.

You can easily adjust all the colors, the amount of glitching, the space from the center, gradient, etc! You can adjust basically anything.

Once you like what you see, you can just download the file and integrate it right into your project.

5. Vangogh

Vangogh design tool

Finally, and arguably the most aesthetically pleasing app of all, is Vangogh.

If you are ever looking for the perfect color palette, look no further.

All you have to do is type in a keyword, it could be an object or an actual color, and it’ll generate a few variations of the perfect color palette for you.

I can literally just sit here and type in a bunch of random words and get lost for hours in these beautiful colors.

I highly recommend you use this app in your next project!

Wrapping things up

I hope you found this list of my favorite design tools at the moment useful!

Let me know which apps were your favorite and what other design tools that you use daily that I missed.

Stay safe, everyone.

And as always,

Stay creative!

A pictures is worth a thousand words, but if that’s true, then a single prototype is worth a thousand meetings.

We all know as designers how difficult it can sometimes be to communicate your ideas and visions clearly with a client.

When it comes to the custom design of a product, you have to try and try again to absolutely nail everything perfectly.

But even when the creation of a product is done… it never truly is, is it?

You always have room for a few modifications and improvements here and there.

And it’s better to find the little mistakes that were made on the product sooner rather than later, right?

And it’s an especially good thing to be able to run your designs by other colleagues, friends, fresh eyes, and ultimately, your client, in order to make sure you’ve done everything to the best of your ability.

The best way to do that is by using prototyping tools.

That’s why, today, we are going to go over 5 different prototyping tools.

Prototyping tools are especially helpful so that you can ensure that you are making your client happy by working alongside them, allowing them to see your process, and ultimately making sure that you keep your customer empathy intact while you’re going through the developmental phases.

And of course, we found the best free prototyping tools for you to use because we’ve always got your back when it comes to saving a buck.

So without further ado, let’s do this.

1. Adobe Experience Design

Alright, let’s just jump into this list and start it off with a banger. This is my personal favorite of the bunch of free prototyping tools, but maybe that’s because I’m a major Adobe fan-girl. And we can just let Adobe themselves sum up the tool in just a few words.

free protoype tool adobe xd

“Adobe XD is a powerful, collaborative, easy-to-use platform that helps you and your team create designs for websites, mobile apps, voice interfaces, games and more.”

You can work together with your team in real-time so that everyone is always on the same page and you can work faster and more efficiently.

“For designers, by designers.”

“We’re not just building a product — we’re building a community of designers striving for a better way to work.”

Price:

  • Free

Compatible with:

  • Windows
  • iOS
  • OS X

origami studio free prototyping tool design

What may have started just for the design team at Facebook, has now been launched for all of us designers out there to use, for free.

“We created Origami to help us design and build many of our products like Facebook, Messenger and Instagram. We’re excited to see what you make in Origami.”

With Origami Studio, once you’ve created your mockup, you can view it in real-time on your phone to catch any bugs or errors, or just simply to enjoy the fruits of your labors.

Price:

  • Free

Compatible with:

Prototypes for:

  • iOS

3. Invision

Design better. Faster. Together.

The digital product design platform powering the world’s best user experiences

By far the most popular prototyping tool in the entire world, I present to you, Invision.

Because they know how important it is to be able to create an amazing prototype, they constantly have their team testing and improving their product.

Because of this, they are continuously adding new, relevant features they will help you create the best prototype that you possibly could.

My favorite part of this prototyping tool is that you can set up planning columns like to-do lists, in progress, needs review, etc.

That way, everyone is on the same page and nothing gets lost in planning.

The tool is free at first, and if you get hooked, in my opinion, the price of it is quite affordable thereafter.

Price:

  • The first project is free
  • 3 projects (which is the starter package) – $15/month
  • Unlimited Projects (which is the professional package) – $25/month

Runs on:

  • Web

Prototypes for:

  • Web
  • iOS
  • Android

4. Atomic

Atomic makes it easy to create and deliver functionality to your users on any device or platform.

If you’re a major Google Chrome fan, then this tool might just be for you.

In order to use Atomic, because it is a web-based tool, you have to use Google Chrome.

Because it is a web-based tool, other designers and developers do not need to install any app, but instead, simply use the Chrome browser in order to see the prototype.

One thing that really does comes in handy is the play button. By clicking on it, you get to see all of your changes and animations in action and progression.

It’s pretty satisfying, but you can also see if there’s anything that went wrong that you’d like to change.

Cost:

  • 1 prototype (30-day trial) – Free
  • Unlimited prototypes for 1 user – $19
  • Unlimited prototypes for up to 10 users – $99

Runs on:

  • Web

Prototypes for:

  • All

5. Sketch

The best products start with Sketch

Create, prototype, collaborate and turn your ideas into incredible products with the definitive platform for digital design.

And last but not least, I present you with Sketch.

If you love photoshop, then you’re in luck.

Sketch is very similar to photoshop in many different ways, but it is most similar in the fact that you can manipulate and edit photos any way that you want.

Because Sketch’s workflow is completely vector-based, it makes it easy to create amazing prototypes.

Another nice thing about Sketch is that you can easily copy and paste things that are constantly repeating themselves in UI, such as buttons, menus, bars… You name it. It’ll save you lots of time and headache in the end.

Cost:

  • Trial – Free
  • Full version – One-time $99 payment

Compatible with:

  • OS X

Prototypes for:

  • Web
  • iOS
  • OS X

Wrapping up…

We hope you found this article helpful and the perfect prototype tool for you.

If we missed any free prototyping tools that you use on a daily basis, let us know in the comments below which ones are your favorite and we’ll cover them in another article.

Until next time,

Stay creative, folks!

We’re all pretty much stuck at home, and finding creativity as a designer can be hard enough somedays.

But now, throw in an entire pandemic, self-isolation, and not being able to meet with your friends and co-workers face to face, and you’ll find it even harder than ever to stay creative.

Working from home can be a challenge, but with the right tips and tricks, we’re certain you’ll do just fine.

Graphic designer working from home

One amazing way to stay creative and in the design loop is by listening to graphic design podcasts.

If you haven’t been on zoom talking to your colleagues about the latest design trends and news, then giving these podcasts a listen will definitely help you stay inspired and up to date with the newest trends.

5 Graphic Design Podcasts That Will Inspire You During COVID-19

Today we’ll be going over our favorite design podcasts that we think that you’ll enjoy. So without further ado, let’s get right into it!

1. Resourceful Designer

If you want to know everything from how to meet your deadlines to how to have a productive space and home office, then Resourceful Designer is for you.

Resourceful Designer was created by Mark Des Cotes, who is a graphic designer and web designer. He has been designing for over 25 years now, and has been running his graphic design business for more than 10 years.

He has loads of tips to share with you, as the podcast name would suggest, and has you covered from all angles. His biggest aim is to help you be able to run your own graphic design business, so if you’re ready to start something of your own, definitely give him a listen!

And just a side/bonus point, he also has a blog that you can binge-read as well!

2. Being Freelance

If you’ve never worked from home before but now have the opportunity to, thanks to #socialdistancing, you may end up falling in love with working from home.

And if you do, you either have to find a job that encourages remote work, or you might end up freelancing and working for yourself.

And if you work for yourself, might I say, you’ll have to nicest boss ever?

Being Freelance is going to teach you the ins and outs of all things freelance. With over 200 recorded episodes, let’s just say that you’re going to learn a lot.

You’re not alone in freelancing, and sometimes it can be hard, but it’s also very rewarding. Give Being Freelance a listen and gain all the knowledge you need to work from the comfort of your couch, surrounded by your plant children and fur-babies.

3. The Deeply Graphic DesignCast

The Deeply Graphic DesignCast – the web and graphic design podcast that offers both practical and creative design advice that you can use.

That’s right, folks. This podcast covers all things web design and graphic design. They’re not going to sit and bore you with advice you’ll never take or cover things that are completely irrelevant, just for content.

Their biggest goal is to give you practical advice regard graphic and web design that you’ll actually use and will help you grow as a designer.

Not only do they care about giving you practical advice, but they also want to know what you have to say. Every episode has a segment where they answer user-submitted questions and help a designer out.

If you have questions that need to be answered by professionals, this is the place to go.

4. The Logo Geek Podcast

If you ever wondered how your favorite, well-known designer got to where they are today, then look no further.

The Logo Geek Podcast hosts interview after interview with some majorly affluent and successful designers to get the behind the scenes of how they became as successful as they are.

Ian Padget, the host of The Logo Geek, is based out of UK and is very helpful and passionate about his podcast. For each podcast episode, you’ll find a transcript and some helpful show notes, so everything is very accessible and you can do some deeper research on the things that really interested you in the respective episode!

5. Debbie Millman’s Design Matters

Design Matters – The world’s first podcast about design and an inquiry into the broader world of creative culture through wide-ranging conversations with designers, writers, artists, curators, musicians, and other luminaries of contemporary thought.

Design Matters, created and hosted by Debbie Millman, is the oldest podcast relating to anything in design, ever.

Because this podcast is related to everything art-related, you won’t find solely graphic design related podcasts. Instead, you’ll find a multitude of podcasts that relate to art, writing, music, and all sorts of beautiful things.

Of course, they are tons and tons of podcasts episodes dedicated solely to graphic design, but who knows, maybe you’ll find a brand new hobby that you’d like to take on during self-isolation!

Wrapping Things Up…

I know it’s been a stressful and scary time for all of us, but look at the brightside.

You can stay home and better improve yourself.

Listen to educational podcasts, take up a new hobby, maybe dive into other parts of art that you never thought you’d like.

Stay indoors and stay safe, everyone.

And as always,

Stay creative, folks!

Some designs just absolutely call for an edgier look than usual.

You can’t just be happy with a simple, everyday font.

You need something more, and more specifically, something that won’t break the bank.

This is why I scoured the internet and found my top 10 picks of free modern fonts.

And yes, you’re welcome.

So without further ado, let’s just jump right into our list of 10 free modern fonts, shall we?

1. Manrope

I thought that I would start this list out with my absolute favorite font and visual.

Manrope.

Pixel Surplus created this gorgeous and functional sans-serif that has amazing readability whether it’s upper or lowercased. This font is so sleek and elegant, and what really had me hooked was this visual.

I mean, just look at all that creativity wrapped up in one image.

Here’s what the creator of Manrope had to say about their font.

“Sometimes, creativity comes from simplicity, elegance, and readability. This font is an extra mile towards, guided by optical balance, and packed with modern features.”

Get it for free by clicking on the link below!

Download here: https://www.behance.net/gallery/70262447/MANROPE-FREE-MODERN-GEOMETRIC-SANS-SERIF-FONT-FAMILY

2. Oneday

Moving on to my next favorite font of this list, here I present to you Oneday.

This font is like a modern-day font that is presented in stencil style. As you can see, almost all of the letters have disconnections in them, which make them stand out and look quite futuristic, in my opinion.

Check it out through the link below and get it for free!

Download here: https://www.dafontfree.io/one-day-font-free/

3. Coco Gothic

Coco Gothic. I’m definitely vibing with this font.

This san font is so modern, sleek, and elegant that it makes you kind of want to use it on all of your upcoming product and packaging designs.

This font comes in 6 different weights and also has different variants for the letter’s “g” and “a” which I find to be very considerate.

Check out the link below to get this modern font for free.

Download here: https://www.behance.net/gallery/25341907/Coco-Gothic-NEW-2-FREE-WEIGHTS

4. Cornerstone

Cornerstone screams professional, modern, and no-nonsense. This modular font is a bit elongated and is great for things like banners, logos, and headers.

It’s definitely got that modern feel that many people are looking for nowadays, and the best part is that it is “free-ninety-nine”! Aka, 100% free.

Welcome to the new year, people!

Are you ready to make 2020 your year?

Without proper planning, all the best and most enthusiastic ideas can come to a complete halt, or never even begin at all.

Proper planning and productivity tools can be life-changing and can help you and your career thrive this year.

If you’ve found yourself in a creative rut, then you’re in luck. We just shared our 5 tips and tricks on how to get and stay creative this year.

Once your creativity wheels are spinning, it’s time to make those creative ideas come to life.

5 Productivity Tools You Can’t Be Without in 2020

Alright, let’s talk about it! Here are the 5 productivity tools you need in your life this year.

1. Evernote

Ah, Evernote. The place where all my best ideas go first, but not only. You can also capture and prioritize ideas, projects, and to-do lists. In this way, nothing will ever fall through the cracks.

Evernote helps you prioritize everything and focus on what matters most to you. From big business plans or projects to personal endeavors, you can organize and schedule the things that matter most.

You can also share your ideas with anyone using Evernote. Take voice memos, copy and paste images, make mental notes that make sense to you however you choose. It’s amazing.

Evernote offers you a free basic plan, and from there you can upgrade to premium or business. The prices are very affordable and definitely worth it in my opinion.

2. Trello

If you’re working closely with other designers on a team project, or you’re managing a team of designers, then Trello is a great app for you to consider using.

With most things on Trello being free, you can see the status of any project that any designer is working on.

You can set up tasks for yourself and others and set due dates and receive reminders via email or notifications on your phone.

Trello works on desktop, iOS, and Android.

Our team has personally used Trello and we swear by it. It helps you stay focused, and get things done in an organized and timely fashion.

3. Airfocus

Next up on our list of productivity tools that you need to use in 2020 is airfocus.

Airfocus is a roadmapping prioritization tool that will help you glide through the year with ease.

Using airfocus is pretty much 👏 the 👏 most 👏 powerful way you can prioritize what to do and you can build more effective roadmaps. If you have a whole team or are working with multiple designers, you can share views and have everyone aligned so that you can get the right stuff done on time.

They have tons of unique features, but my personal favorite is the chart view. Once you plug in all of your tasks, you can click on the chart view and see where each task and its priority falls.

You can use airfocus with your team for free for 14 days, and then once you fall in love with the product just like we have, you can upgrade your plan to a starter plan, team plan, or enterprise plan!

4. Momentum

Momentum is a personal dashboard designed to eliminate distraction and provide inspiration, focus, and productivity.

The internet is full of distractions. Social media and YouTube distract me daily if I’m completely honest.

We’ve all been there. You tell yourself, just one more meme. One more video. And then three hours have gone by and you haven’t been productive at all.

Momentum is the perfect solution for anti-procrastinating. Add the extension on Google Chrome or Firefox and be saved from all the sites that you lose hours upon hours on.

When you add Momentum to your browser, it will replace the new tab page with a personal dashboard that will show you your to-do list, the weather, and some inspiration.

Every time you open a new tab, you’ll be reminded of your goal for the day.

5. Noizio

And finally, we come to our last productivity app of the day. Noizio.

I love to listen to music when I’m working. It helps me stay focused.

But sometimes, I get sick of listening to the same songs every single day. Or in the other extreme, I’ll get to hype and lose focus and have my own karaoke time.

So here’s the solution. You can listen to the relaxing sounds of nature or places and adjust any sounds you want to be louder or quieter.

Not only will it make you more productive, but you can also use it to help you fall asleep sooner.

Wrapping up

We hope you found these productivity apps interesting and helpful!

Let us know in the comments what you think about these apps and what other apps you guys use to stay productive during the work day.

Until next time,

Stay creative, folks!
